The Great Minnesota Get Together

This labor day weekend, Sitso and I went to the "Great Minnesota Get Together" - the Minnesota State Fair. We had a great time. For those of you who have never been to a state fair of this magnitude, it is a sight to see. This weekend alone, over 168,000 people attended the fair.

There is a huge fairground which only gets used once a year. On it are all kinds of stands with everything you could ever imagine - food, games, contests, rides, giveaways - you name it. There are also livestock exhibits and a Miracle of Life building where you can see livestock giving birth. Also, you can see Miss Kay of the Milky Way, the dairy princess, and her likeness carved out of butter. I am not kidding - there is a lifesize bust of Miss Kay carved out of butter in a huge refrigerated glass case. But perhaps the most amazing thing about the state fair is the food. You can get pretty much anything your heart desires (and some things it doesn't) including cheese curds, friend green tomatoes, deep fried twinkies, and hot dish on a stick (I still don't know what this is.) Here are some pictures to give you an idea of what it is like:

A view of the crowds!

Sitso getting friendly with a very realistic looking Mountain Lion from a wildlife exhibit.

Here we are after stuffing ourselves on the famous "Tom Thumb" donuts. They were delicious!
